Nez Perce County NEZZ-purse; is a county located in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2020 census, the population was 42,090. [1] The county seat is Lewiston. [2] The county is named after the Native American Nez Perce tribe. Nez Perce County is part of the Lewiston, Idaho–WA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The metro is anchored by the cities of Lewiston, Idaho, and Clarkston, Washington—named after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, [A] respectively. As of the 2010 census , the MSA had a population of 60,888 (though a July 1, 2011 estimate placed the population at 61,476), [ 1 ] making it the 4th smallest metropolitan area in the United States.
The community is located ten miles (16 km) east and upstream of Lewiston, on the Clearwater River, at the mouth of the Lapwai Valley. U.S. Route 95 runs through the community and has a junction with U.S. Route 12 just west of town. [3] Spalding is part of the Lewiston, ID-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
