The UE Red Warriors are the collegiate men's basketball team of the University of the East, which play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere sports league in the country.
As of 2006, The Red Warriors were tied with the University of Santo Tomas as the second most successful team in UAAP men's basketball, with 18 titles, most of them coming from the time of coach Baby Dalupan and Robert Jaworski. [1] The UE Red Warriors holds the longest senior basketball championship run with seven straight UAAP titles.
The UAAP basketball sport has a rich history of schools establishing dynasties. UE won a record seven consecutive basketball titles from 1965 to 1971 albeit the third one was a shared championship with UST. Ateneo had a 5-year winning streak from 2008 to 2012. Two other schools ended their championship streak at four.
The 1986 UAAP men's basketball tournament was the 49th year of the men's tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP)'s basketball championship. Hosted by National University, the UP Fighting Maroons defeated the UE Red Warriors in the finals taking their first UAAP men's basketball championship in 47 years. [1]

The Purple Aces appeared 4 times in the NAIA Tournament (1941, 1942, 1951, and 1955). The Purple Aces had a NAIA tournament record of 3–4.
La Salle, which was suspended on the previous tournament, went on to win the championship, sweeping the UE Red Warriors 2–0 in the Finals series. UE on the other hand, had the distinction of sweeping the double round eliminations 14–0, capped by a win against La Salle in overtime on their last elimination round game.
Tremendous community support brought back the basketball program the next year. Brad Leaf played for the Evansville Purple Aces from 1979 to 1982, and was a co-captain in his last year. [7] [8] [9] As a sophomore, he set the then-Evansville season free throw percentage record at 81.1%. [10]
UST won the first game 91–77, while UE won the second game, 74–63 in the elimination round. UE's loss was the third time in tournament history where they were booted out of the semifinals armed with the twice-to-beat advantage (1994, 2002 and 2006). UE's last Finals appearance was on 1990.
