In this expression, s is the number of sides on on dice and n is the number of rolls; if there is only one roll, the n is omitted. As an illustration, the d20 (twenty-sided dice) is to Dungeons & Dragons what the d6 (six-sided dice) is to many board games. Monopoly uses 2d6 rolls (the total value of two six-sided dice) to determine player movement.
Four-sided dice were among the gambling and divination tools used by early man who carved them from nuts, wood, stone, ivory and bone. [2] Six-sided dice were invented later but four-sided dice continued to be popular in Russia. In Ancient Rome, elongated four-sided dice were called tali while the six-sided cubic dice were tesserae. [3]
If zero is allowed, normal dice have one variant (N') and Sicherman dice have two (S' and S"). Each table has 1 two, 2 threes, 3 fours etc. A standard exercise in elementary combinatorics is to calculate the number of ways of rolling any given value with a pair of fair six-sided dice (by taking the sum of the two rolls).
Go First Dice are a set of dice in which, when rolled together, each die has an equal chance of showing the highest number, the second highest number, and so on. [1] [2] The dice are intended for fairly deciding the order of play in, for example, a board game. The number on each side is unique among the set, so that no ties can be formed.
The pips on the top faces of these dice can be quickly counted as totalling 9. On dice, pips are small dots on each face of a die. These pips are typically arranged in patterns denoting the numbers one through n, where n is the number of faces. For the common six-sided die, the sum of the pips on opposing faces traditionally adds up to seven.
Poker dice are dice which, instead of having number pips, have representations of playing cards upon them. Poker dice have six sides, one each of an Ace , King , Queen , Jack , 10, and 9, and are used to form a poker hand .

The actual origins of the game are not clear; some of the earliest documentation comes from 1893, when Stewart Culin reported that Cee-lo was the most popular dice game played by Chinese-American laborers, although he also notes they preferred to play Fan-Tan and games using Chinese dominoes such as Pai Gow or Tien Gow rather than dice games.
