Title page of Beethoven's symphonies from the Gesamtausgabe. The list of compositions of Ludwig van Beethoven consists of 722 works [1] written over forty-five years, from his earliest work in 1782 (variations for piano on a march by Ernst Christoph Dressler) when he was only eleven years old and still in Bonn, until his last work just before his death in Vienna in 1827.
Music critics almost universally consider the Ninth Symphony one of Beethoven's greatest works, and among the greatest musical works ever written. Ludwig van Beethoven wrote 32 mature piano sonatas between 1795 and 1822. (He also wrote 3 juvenile sonatas at the age of 13 [1] and one unfinished sonata, WoO. 51.)Although originally not intended to be a meaningful whole, as a set they comprise one of the most important collections of works in the history of music.
