Darjeeling tea is a tea made from Camellia sinensis var. sinensis that is grown and processed in Darjeeling district or Kalimpong district in West Bengal, India. Since 2004, the term Darjeeling tea has been a registered geographical indication referring to products produced on certain estates within Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
It is one of the oldest plantations in the Darjeeling West valley. It is spread over 510 hectares of land. Phoobsering tea estate was established by the Darjeeling Tea Company in the 1856-1860 along with Ging, Takdah and Ambootia. Phoobsering tea of Oolong variety is prized all over the world for its taste.
The Sterling Tea Companies owned 17 tea estates in India with 12 in Jalpaiguri district, 3 in Darjeeling and 2 in Assam.They established tea gardens in the late 1800s and then progressively carried the business in India.

In Glenburn Tea Estate, there is a reserve forest (known as Simbong Forest) of 350 ha (860 acres) within the total area of 750 ha (1,900 acres). The Rangeet and the Rungdung flow through/ near the tea estate. [3] The elevation of the tea estate varies from 1,000 to 3,000 feet (300 to 910 m). [2] Glenburn produces some of the finest Darjeeling tea.
Dhajea Tea Garden is located at Dhajea Tea Estate is in the Rongbong valley above the banks of the Balason.It produces 100% organic Darjeeling tea from 2007, in an area of 180 hectares (440 acres) out of a total area of 317 hectares (780 acres) at an altitude ranging from 2,600 to 3,500 feet (790 to 1,070 m).
