Harrisburg is located in southwestern Cabarrus County. It is bordered to the north by Concord and to the west by Charlotte in Mecklenburg County. North Carolina Highway 49 passes through the center of Harrisburg, leading northeast 57 miles (92 km) to Asheboro and southwest 13 miles (21 km) to the center of Charlotte.
In 1913, the Corporation Commission was given responsibility for regulating water and hydroelectric utilities. In 1920 the commission was replaced by a single Utilities Commissioner and some part-time staff. [1] In 1941, the General Assembly created the North Carolina Utilities Commission, composed of three commissioners serving six-year terms.

Harrisburg station is a planned infill train station in Harrisburg, North Carolina, located on the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR).
