Light Yagami (Japanese: 夜神 月 ライト, Hepburn: Yagami Raito) is the main protagonist of the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.He is portrayed as a brilliant but bored genius who finds the Death Note, a supernatural notebook that allows the user to kill anyone by knowing their name and face, after it is dropped by the Shinigami Ryuk.
The story follows Light Yagami, a genius high school student who discovers a mysterious notebook: the "Death Note", which belonged to the shinigami Ryuk, and grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages.
After a conflict with Mello and his men, Soichiro Yagami recovers a Death Note but dies of his injuries. Light returns the Death Note to Shido and sends him away. The U.S. Government acknowledges Kira and disbands the SPK. Near works with Light over Kira- and Mello-related matters while suspecting Light is Kira.
The story follows the character named Light Yagami, who chances upon a supernatural notebook which grants him the ability to cause the death of anyone he writes in it. Light uses the notebook he finds in order to cleanse the world of humans he has deemed unfit for society.
