Deception Pass (Lushootseed: sčudᶻ; [2] Samish: Xwchsónges) [3] is a strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island, in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Washington. It connects Skagit Bay, part of Puget Sound, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A pair of bridges known collectively as Deception Pass Bridge cross Deception Pass.
Fidalgo Island is an island in Skagit County, Washington, located about 60 mi (97 km) north of Seattle. To the east, it is separated from the mainland by the Swinomish Channel, and from Whidbey Island to the south by Deception Pass. The island is named after the Spanish explorer and cartographer Salvador Fidalgo, who explored the area in 1790.
It is located north of Fidalgo Island and the city of Anacortes, and is accessible by private boat and by the Guemes Island ferry operated by Skagit County. Guemes Island was named after the Viceroy of New Spain , Juan Vicente de Güemes , who commissioned an expedition that revealed the islands to Spain in 1794.

The hotel was designed by Pickles and Sutton of Tacoma, built of bricks from See's Brickyard of Anacortes. The style is Romanesque with masticated stone bases, rounded windows and Roman arches. The hotel was added to in 1927. Recently, the Wilson underwent complete restoration & earthquake retrofitting. The work was completed in 2007.
