A Belfast Urban Area strategic development plan for Belfast and the surrounding area was adopted in 1990 to cover the period up to 2001. [9] This plan was to be superseded by the Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan 2015, to cover the period up to 2035. [10]
As of the 2000s, the site was proposed as a station to serve the area between Belfast and Holywood on the Bangor line.
