Mary Kathryn "Heidi" Heitkamp (/ ˈ h aɪ t k æ m p /, HYTE-kamp; born October 30, 1955) is an American lawyer and politician who served as a United States senator from North Dakota from 2013 to 2019. A member of the North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party, she was the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from North Dakota.
Incumbent senator Heidi Heitkamp ran for reelection to a second term. [1] The candidate filing deadline was April 9, 2018, and the primary election was held on June 12, 2018. [2] U.S. Representative Kevin Cramer won the Republican primary to challenge Heitkamp, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
