This one is relatively straightforward...just use the caret key (Shift +6) and then the letter "s" and that's the code for a non-breaking space (the caret is what tells Word you're doing a search/replace for a 'special character'. Another solution is to enable the Layout Option "Don't expand character spaces on a line that ends with SHIFT-RETURN." This setting will be for the immediate document only. Discussion with the Word product team revealed that (as usual) they weren't aware that users were using nonbreaking spaces for this purpose.

That's called a non-breaking space in Word terminology. Right-click on the Ribbon and select Customise the Ribbon. At the bottom of the dialog, click Keyboard Shortcuts: Customize. In the Press new shortcut key window, enter Control+Shift+Spacebar and make sure it is still assigned to non-breaking space. If it has been changed, reassign it.

I wanted to share this in case it is helpful to someone else: I selected an instance of Mr.+space in my document and pasted it into FIND. In the REPLACE box I typed Mr.+ctrl+shift+space. Here's how: 1. Place your cursor where you want to insert the non-breaking hyphen. 2. Press "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "-". 3. The non-breaking hyphen will be inserted, and you can toggle show/hide characters to see it. Note that this is different from a regular hyphen, which will break words at line breaks.
