The Nissan L series of automobile engines was produced from 1966 through 1986 in both inline-four and inline-six configurations ranging from 1.3 L to 2.8 L. It is a two-valves per cylinder SOHC non-crossflow engine, with an iron block and an aluminium head.
Displacement is 5,327 cc (5.3 L; 325.1 cu in) from a bore and stroke of 96 mm × 92 mm (3.78 in × 3.62 in). Vortec 5300s were built in St. Catharines, Ontario , and Romulus, Michigan . The aluminum block variants, the LM4 and the L33, share the same displacement, but instead use an aluminum block with cast-in cylinder liners, much like the LS1.

The E-10 engine has a bore and stroke of 70 mm × 68 mm (2.76 in × 2.68 in); [3] this is the same stroke as in the latter D11 engine. The D engine, unlike other Nissan engines of the period, also has its distributor mounted between the second and third cylinders rather than towards the back of the engine. [ 1 ]
Many parts, including the rear-axle and the power steering came from the Datsun 810 luxury sedan. [2] Most of the design effort went into the entirely different and much more modern interior. [ 3 ] The car became a grand tourer rather than a sports car, particularly in the plush Grand Luxury versions.
The 2.5 L (2,488 cc) SD25 is the biggest version of the four-cylinder SD series, with the larger bore and stroke of 89 mm × 100 mm (3.50 in × 3.94 in). It was fitted to Nissan 720 pickup trucks 1983 through 1986 and D21 Nissan pickups (only 1986–1988). In some European markets it was also fitted to the Nissan Urvan and Cabstar.
