Las Olas Boulevard is a major east-west thoroughfare in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States that runs from SW 1st Avenue in the Central Business District to Florida State Road A1A in Fort Lauderdale Beach. The name "Las Olas" means "The Waves" in Spanish. The road once carried the designations of State Road A1A Alt. and State Road 842.
In January 1985, thirteen sites were considered for a proposed Broward County Convention Center. One of the leading sites was a 25-acre (1,100,000 sq ft; 100,000 m 2) parcel that included a 15-acre (650,000 sq ft; 61,000 m 2) trailer park near Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport at U.S. 1 and Northwest 10th Street.

W.F. Morang arrived in Fort Lauderdale from Boston in the early 1920s and participated with other developers in the land boom era of 1923 to 1926. His company, W.F. Morang & Sons, Inc., helped develop and dredge some of the finger islands around the city including the 80 acres (320,000 m 2) currently called the Seven Isles.
