I suspect that it would or the guy writing the service manual would of stopped after he told us to mark the opening degree location. :rofl: Robert.

    A lot of the 587's had the mark scribed onto the rotary valve face on the crankcase , yes I know you should use a degree wheel but if you have the front cylinder at TDC and line up the rotary valve with the scribed mark it will work.

    When installing a Sea-Doo 587, 657, 657X, 717, 787 or 787 RFI engine, your rotary valve must be timed. To do so requires a timing degree wheel, and the degree specification for your particular engine: Place a screwdriver, pen, etc., or use a TDC gauge in the front (MAG) cylinder through the spark plug hole.
