The sources given are selective, and the absence of a reference to a particular dictionary does not necessarily mean that the word does not appear in that dictionary. In American and Canadian English, there are currently 4,422 words with Q not followed by U including the following words in the table below.
This was raised on AfD (VfD as it then was). The consensus was to keep it here, since it contains more than a list of definitions, and is about the words themselves more than the things they represent. Printed dictionaries do not contain lists of word curios, so Wiktionary should not either. Soo 16:10, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
While such words are technically outside the scope of the list as defined by its title, they are usually terms borrowed from languages (in these cases Chinese and Arabic) where the Q is an ordinary consonant that may or may not be followed by U, like almost all the words currently in the list are. --Theurgist 23:38, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Some redlinked words, some not linked at all. Why? Done. Either fixed, or directed to wiktionary, or removed. Uses section is entirely unreferenced. Added some of the references that I had listed, and rewrote to eliminate the non-static list of words (the acceptable word list changes every 5 years or so). Please rewrite my in-eloquence.
