The National Industrial Property Institute (French: Institut national de la propriété industrielle, pronounced [ɛ̃stity nɑsjɔnal də la pʁɔpʁijete ɛ̃dystʁijɛl]; abbr. INPI) is the national intellectual property office of France, in charge of patents, trademarks and industrial design rights.
The French Intellectual Property Code (IPC; French: Code de la propriété intellectuelle), is a corpus of law relating to intellectual and industrial property.It was formalised by Law No 92-597 of 1 July 1992, replacing earlier laws relating to industrial property and artistic and literary property.
After a diplomatic conference in Paris in 1880, the convention was signed on 20 March 1883 by 11 countries: Belgium, Brazil, France, Guatemala, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, El Salvador, Kingdom of Serbia, [6] Spain and Switzerland. Guatemala, El Salvador and Serbia denounced and reapplied the convention via accession.
The Unified Patent Court is a court common to several member states of the European Union, including Germany, France and Italy. It has jurisdiction regarding European patents as any national court would do.
The European Patent Office (EPO) [notes 1] is one of the two organs of the European Patent Organisation (EPOrg), the other being the Administrative Council. [4] The EPO acts as executive body for the organisation [5] [6] while the Administrative Council acts as its supervisory body [5] as well as, to a limited extent, its legislative body.
A characteristic of European patent law as it stands today is that European patents granted by the European Patent Office (EPO), and patents granted by national patent offices are available, [3] and may possibly –if permitted by national law and, if so, to the extent permitted by national law [4] – co-exist within a given jurisdiction.
