The South Fork Catawba River (better known as the South Fork River) [5] begins south of Hickory, North Carolina just northwest of the intersection of US Highway 321 and North Carolina Highway 10, at the confluence of the Henry Fork and Jacob Fork located adjacent to the east side of the Jacob Fork Newton City Park.

First Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church located at 2nd Street and 3rd Avenue NW in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. It was built in 1905–1906, and is a Romanesque Revival-style church sheathed in granite. The front facade features square towers of unequal height.
NC 127 is a rural two-lane highway, except in Hickory. It begins at an intersection with NC 10 in the unincorporated Catawba County community of Propst Crossroads and travels north over Jacobs Fork into the census designated place (CDP) of Mountain View.
In later years, the village gained amenities such as walkways, terraced green spaces, and field stone retaining walls. Today, most of the village's original buildings remain sited along a small gorge of the Henry River, just west of Catawba County, North Carolina. The site is private property but can be driven through via Henry River Road.

The Hickory region is served by Interstate 40 which passes through the center of Catawba and Burke counties. Primary state routes include NC 10, NC 16, NC 18, NC 90, NC 127, and NC 150.
