Altamont Raceway Park is a motorsports race track in the western United States, located in northern California, west of Tracy.It opened on July 22, 1966, and operated under the names Altamont Speedway, Altamont Raceway, Altamont Motorsports Park, Altamont Raceway Park and Arena, and Bernal Memorial Raceway.
The race was revived at the new Cal Expo site as a USAC Silver Crown race from 1989 until 2000. The day-to-day operations of the track, along with the management and promotion of major racing events, are now handled by A&D Narigi Consulting, LLC. John V. Narigi is the General Manager and President. Until January 1, 2020, it was managed by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), which is a non-profit organization.
The track has also hosted the World of Outlaws and the Traxxas TORC Series. [2] The track opened on March 30, 1996. Prior to that, the site of the track was home to Lake Perris speedway, a 1/8-mile dirt oval constructed in 1987 and hosted motorcycle racing then later car racing until 1993. A 1/3-mile dirt oval operated until the end of 1995. [3]
Thunderhill has two tracks: the original 2.866 mi (4.612 km) track known as Thunderhill East and a 2.000 mi (3.219 km) track known as Thunderhill West. The two tracks can also be combined to offer a 4.600 mi (7.403 km) track. Thunderhill also offers two large skid pad areas as well for drifting and car control events.
