On June 12, 1985, the Central Bank issued the New Design Series starting with a new 5-peso banknote with the face of Emilio Aguinaldo. A new 10-peso banknote with the face of Apolinario Mabini was then introduced in July 1985 a month after the 5-peso banknote was issued. On March 3, 1986, a new 20-peso banknote appeared.
