Hockley County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas.As of the 2020 census, its population was 21,537. [1] Its county seat is Levelland. [2] The county was created in 1876, but not organized until 1921. [3]
Hockley is an unincorporated community located in Harris County, Texas, United States, on Texas State Highway 6 and U.S. Route 290, approximately five miles (8.0 km) southeast of the city hall of Waller, and 36 mi (57.9 km) northwest of downtown Houston.

Opdyke West (pronounced "Oh-Pih-Dyke") is a town in Hockley County, Texas, United States.The population was 220 at the 2020 census.It takes its name from the nearby community of Opdyke, founded in 1925, which was named either for Charles W. Opdyke, railroad director, or for the family of W. A. Dykes, who established the first gin in the area by 1937.
The ranch was established by David M. DeVitt and John Scharbauer in Hockley County, Texas in 1885. [1] [2] The name, "Mallet Ranch", came from a former ranch established by D. P. Atwood on the Texas-Mexican border in the early 1880s. [1] DeVitt and Scharbauer acquired more land in Terry County, Cochran County and Yoakum County. [1]
