The Banks County School District is a public school district in Banks County, Georgia, United States, based in Homer.. It includes all of Banks County. In addition to all of Homer, the district also includes Banks County sections of Alto, Baldwin, Gillsville, Lula, and Maysville. [5]
Old Banks County Courthouse - July 2011. The Old Banks County Courthouse is in Homer, Georgia. Construction started in 1860 but was interrupted because of the American Civil War. Construction was paid for with $6,600 in Confederate money. Construction was finished in 1875. (The Georgia Courthouse Manual dates it as completed in 1863.)
The government for the town of Alto is housed in a structure with an unusual history. When the new Cornelia Bank was built in nearby Cornelia in the late 1970s, the small building housing the old remote drive-in teller windows was moved to its current location on a lot across Georgia Hwy 441 from the Riegel Textile Mill (now Mt. Vernon Mills) in Alto and converted for office use.
