Evans is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Columbia County, Georgia, United States. It is a suburb of Augusta and is part of the Augusta metropolitan area . The population was 29,011 at the 2010 census, [ 4 ] up from 17,727 at the 2000 census.

Evans County is a county in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia.As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,774. [1] The county seat is Claxton. [2] A bill creating the county was passed in the Georgia General Assembly on August 11, 1914, and later, on November 3, 1914, an amendment was ratified by a vote of the people which formally created the county.
Georgia is the only state that still allows sole commissioner county government. As of 2021, seven of the state's 159 counties operate under that system. During the 2022 legislative session, the Georgia General Assembly began considering reducing the number of counties in the state. [5]

Between April and July 1941, US 25/SR 73, between the Evans–Bulloch county line and the intersection with SR 46, were paved. [29] [30] In 1942, SR 73 was paved from Glennville to the Tattnall–Evans county line. [31] [32] In 1943, SR 73 was paved all the way from Glennville to Claxton.
