Gates is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The town is named after General Horatio Gates. [3] The population was 29,167 at the 2020 census. [2] Gates and North Gates are census-designated places within the town. It is a suburb of Rochester.
New York State Route 33 (Buffalo Road) forms the southern edge of the community, and State Route 31 (Lyell Avenue) forms part of the northern edge. Downtown Rochester is 6 miles (10 km) to the east. The hamlet of Gates Center occupies the southern half of the CDP (south of I-490), and Gates Chili High School is in the western part of the CDP.
Woodbine–Palmetto–Gates Historic District is a national historic district in Ridgewood, Queens, New York. It includes 91 contributing buildings built between 1908 and 1911. They consist mainly of three story brick tenements with two apartments per floor. The buildings feature amber brick facades with burnt orange brick bases and trim. [2] [3]
