Mijas (/ ˈ m iː h ə s / MEE-həs; Spanish:) is a municipality in the Province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. Located on the southeastern coast of Spain , Mijas belongs to the region of Costa del Sol Occidental . [ 2 ]
Mijas Pueblo is the historical core of the municipality of Mijas, situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol in southwestern Spain. It lies only 30 kilometres from Málaga Airport . It has a varied landscape that goes from the mountains all the way to the sea.
The town was developed by D. Juan de Orbaneja in 1963, [1] occupying the space between Marbella and Mijas. The town was affected by wildfires on September 11 and 12 of 2011, and again in September 2012.
