Jean Lafitte (/ dʒ iː n l ə ˈ f iː t / JEEN lə-FEET) is a town on Bayou Barataria in the U.S. state of Louisiana. Located in Jefferson Parish, it is named after the privateer Jean Lafitte. The population was 1,809 at the 2020 census. [4] It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner metropolitan statistical area.
Barataria falls under the San Juan–Laventille Regional Corporation. It is a relatively quiet residential area, home to retired and "middle classes" with streets running north–south and east–west with corresponding names, e.g. "Fifth Street". There is the usual suburban mix of churches, shops, bars and auto repair shops.
