Smith's Food and Drug, or simply Smith's, is an American regional supermarket chain that was founded by Lorenzo Smith in 1911 in Brigham City, Utah. Headquartered in Salt Lake City with stores in Utah , Nevada , New Mexico , Arizona , Montana , Idaho , and Wyoming , Smith's became a subsidiary of Kroger in 1998.
Ridley's Food Corporation was incorporated that same year as a privately held company with its headquarters in Boise, Idaho. [ 9 ] [ 10 ] Throughout the 1990s, Ridley's began acquiring several grocery stores in Idaho, including two Smith's Food and Drug stores in Boise (1992) and two Sprouse-Reitz stores in Emmett and McCall (1994). [ 1 ]
Six of the stores were converted to sister store Smith's Food and Drug, a prominent grocery chain owned by Kroger in the Las Vegas area. The remaining eight stores were closed.
