A Kater's pendulum is a reversible free swinging pendulum invented by British physicist and army captain Henry Kater in 1817 (made public on 29 January 1818), [1] for use as a gravimeter instrument to measure the local acceleration of gravity.
[1] His most substantial work was the invention of Kater's pendulum, enabling the strength of gravity to be determined, first at London [2] and subsequently at various stations throughout the country. As the inventor of the floating collimator, Kater rendered a service to practical astronomy. [3]
Formula One, abbreviated to F1, is the highest class of open-wheeled auto racing series administered by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body. [1] The "formula" in the name alludes to a series of rules set by the FIA to which all participants and vehicles are required to conform.
The seconds pendulum (also called the Royal pendulum), 0.994 m (39.1 in) long, in which each swing takes one second, became widely used in quality clocks. The long narrow clocks built around these pendulums, first made by William Clement around 1680, became known as grandfather clocks. The increased accuracy resulting from these developments ...

The real period is, of course, the time it takes the pendulum to go through one full cycle. Paul Appell pointed out a physical interpretation of the imaginary period: [16] if θ 0 is the maximum angle of one pendulum and 180° − θ 0 is the maximum angle of another, then the real period of each is the magnitude of the imaginary period of the ...
The sixth-place team gets $1.5 million, meaning every player is guaranteed nearly $400,000 for a few weeks’ work. Tiger Woods teed it up with his son at the PNC Championship in December, but has ...
