Robert Cleckler Bowden (/ ˈ b aʊ d ə n /; November 8, 1929 – August 8, 2021) was an American college football coach. Bowden coached the Florida State Seminoles of Florida State University (FSU) from 1976 to 2009 and is considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time for his accomplishments with the Seminoles.

Former Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden died Sunday of pancreatic cancer, just weeks after announcing he had been diagnosed with a terminal medical condition.
The game was the last to be coached by legendary Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden prior to his retirement. Bowden had publicly stated that he would like to coach the game in the state of Florida — which created what amounts to a Florida State home game.
