The Lyford House on Richardson Bay in Tiburon, California, was the home of Benjamin Lyford (1841–1906), a doctor in the Union Army who was born in New Hampshire and raised in Cabot, Vermont. He migrated to San Francisco after the American Civil War to practice medicine.
Tiburon (/ ˈ t ɪ b ə r ɒ n / TIB-ər-on; Spanish: Tiburón, [tiβuˈɾon]) [9] is an incorporated town in Marin County, California. It is located on the Tiburon Peninsula , which reaches south into the San Francisco Bay .
The landmark is situated on the flank of the Tiburon Hills, an area characterized by serpentine soils and hence has a distinct plant community. The area surrounding the church is a Marin County protected area, the Old Saint Hilary's Open Space Preserve. The church building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. [1]
The Tiburon Neighborhood Coalition opposed the construction, citing the traffic and noise impact due to the size of a new multi-purpose room and a proposed 27 additional events with up to 250 persons. That summer, the Tiburon Planning Commission rejected the expansion plans, claiming that Kol Shofar refused to engage in compromise discussions.
The Tiburon Peninsula is a landform of the San Francisco Bay Area's Marin County and is home to the incorporated municipalities of Tiburon, Belvedere, and a portion of Corte Madera, California. [2] Much of the peninsula is unincorporated , [ 3 ] including portions of the north side and the communities of Paradise Cay and Strawberry .
