The 55th National Conference of the African National Congress (ANC) was a party conference of the African National Congress, a political party in South Africa, that took place from 16 to 20 December 2022, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec, Gauteng.
The National Conference of the African National Congress is a party congress that is held every five years. It elects members to the National Executive Committee , the party's highest decision-making body, as well as the "Top Six" leaders of the National Executive.
The conference began on 16 December 2022 at Nasrec where the previous conference was held back in 2017. After several delays, [ 1 ] voting to elect the Top Seven officials began in the evening of Sunday 18 December and continued into the night.
It is composed of 27 members, the "Top Seven" officials and 20 additional members who are elected by the party's National Executive Committee as soon as the National Conference concludes. The NWC is responsible for the day-to-day running of the party and makes recommendations to the NEC. [1]
