Franklin Township is one of eleven townships in Montgomery County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,765 (down from 1,915 at 2010 [3]) and it contained 749 housing units. [2] Franklin Township was established in 1831. [4]
A year after arriving in Montgomery County, in 1829, Joel built the township's first grist and saw mill along the banks of Sugar Creek. [3] It was called Deer's Mill, and that small corner of Montgomery County retains that name to this day. The original millhouse was of log construction with common stones, and primarily ground wheat and corn.
