Lawrence Township is one of nine townships in Marion County, Indiana, United States. The population was 122,321 at the 2020 census , up from 118,447 at the 2010 United States Census . [ 4 ] Lawrence Township was organized in 1822.
On January 1, 1970, the city-county consolidation of Indianapolis and Marion County resulted in the partial annexation of 16 towns, known as "included towns". In 2008, Geist residents collected 1,700 signatures and filed suit to stop Fishers from annexing their homes into the Fishers tax base. The suit was turned over to Hamilton County Superior Court, and on December 31, 2008, the judge ruled that Fishers could annex 2,200 upscale homes surrounding Geist Reservoir.
