The northern black racer (Coluber constrictor constrictor) is a subspecies of the eastern racer (Coluber constrictor), a nonvenomous snake in the family Colubridae.Their geographic range extends from southern Maine to northern Georgia and westward to central Kentucky and eastern Ohio.
The eastern copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix), [3] also known simply as the copperhead, is a species of venomous snake, a pit viper, endemic to eastern North America; it is a member of the subfamily Crotalinae in the family Viperidae.
Another population of these snakes lives in southwestern Indiana and adjacent Illinois and Kentucky, and southeastern Indiana. That population is not listed as threatened by the USFWS, but is protected by conservation agreements with State Departments of Natural Resources, various other State and Federal agencies, and coal companies.
Murphy's Pond (sometimes referred to as Murphy Pond) is a wetlands complex located in Hickman County, Kentucky.While only about 175 acres (71 hectares) in size, the pond is notable for being one of the largest bald cypress swamps remaining in Kentucky and for its high cottonmouth snake (Agkistrodon piscivorus) population density.
