Answer. The story of Caleb, a faithful man of God, begins in the book of Numbers. After being delivered from bondage in Egypt, the Israelites were led by God to the border of the land of Canaan, a land “flowing with milk and honey” that God had promised they would inherit (Exodus 3:8, 17).
Caleb was the head of the tribe of Judah—the same tribe as David and the Lord Jesus Christ. Caleb and Joshua, along with 10 other men, were sent into Canaan to see if the land was good or bad and whether the land that God had promised them was even worth fighting for (Numbers 13:17-20).
Caleb (/ ˈ k eɪ l ə b / KAY-ləb; Hebrew: כָּלֵב, Tiberian vocalization: Kālēḇ, Modern Israeli Hebrew: Kalév) is a figure who appears in the Hebrew Bible as a representative of the Tribe of Judah during the Israelites' journey to the Promised Land.
Caleb was a man who didn’t let anything get in the way of what God had for him, and even at the age of 85, he was still working for the Lord and fighting the battles that God had put before Him knowing that the Lord was helping Him.
Although that’s the basic story of Caleb in the Bible, Caleb connects us to three important additional themes in the Old Testament: Theme: Judah. When Moses sent 12 men to explore Canaan, he picked one leader from each of the twelve tribes of Israel. Caleb, son of Jephunneh, was the representative chosen from the tribe of Judah.
CALEB kā ləb (כָּלֵ֖ב, dog, i.e., slave), son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, one of the spies sent to survey the land of Canaan (Num 13; 14). The name is thought by some to go back to totemistic origins. It may rather speak of a man with canine qualities: the rabid one, biting, snarling.
Caleb in the Bible is an Old Testament hero who trusted in God instead of his own strength. Read his Bible story and see how God rewarded his loyalty.
