Guia Fortress is one of the symbols of Macau. The Guia Fortress (commonly known as Penha Hill Lighthouse) is located on the hilltop of Penha Hill in the Macau Peninsula.It was built in 1864 during the third year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing dynasty and designed by Carlos Vincente Da Rocha, a native Portuguese of Macau.

The fort was already partly built during the unsuccessful attempt by the Netherlands to capture Macau from Portugal, providing an advantageous firing position for defending against naval attacks.
