Mapleton Falls is a national park near the town of Mapleton on the Blackall Range in South East Queensland, Australia, 95 kilometres (59 mi) north of Brisbane. The falls are part of Pencil Creek and drop 120 metres (390 ft). [1] The waterfall became a forest reserve in 1938 and then in 1973 it was declared a national park. [2]

From the early 1900s, people began visiting this area for its "natural scenery, waterfalls and spectacular views". [3] The first area to be protected was Kondalilla—in 1906 it became a recreational area, then a national park in 1945. Since then, reserves have been added across the Blackall Range to protect remnants of its natural communities.
