Hutchinson is located in south-central Kansas at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Kansas Highway 96 (K-96), Hutchinson is 39 miles (63 km) northwest of Wichita, 200 mi (320 km) west-southwest of Kansas City, and 395 miles (636 km) east-southeast of Denver.
K-96 has an interchange (exit 53) with Interstate 35 (the Kansas Turnpike) before it ends at a trumpet interchange with US-54/400. K-96 between Rush Center and Wichita is a part of the National Highway System. Naval Air Station Hutchinson, Kansas, is a former facility of the United States Navy, located 13 miles south of Hutchinson, Kansas, which was constructed during World War II, and reopened for several years in the 1950s before final closure in 1958. The base was then taken over by the Kansas Air National Guard. [1]
