[ 3 ] As of the 2020 census, the population was 61,898. [ 1 ] The county is named for Jesse Reno, a general during the American Civil War.
The Reno County Historical Society was organized by thirteen interested citizens in 1960, and received its charter from the Kansas Historical Society in 1961. [3] The society did not have a permanent home for a museum until 1963, when it opened in five rooms in the downstairs area of a home belonging to RCHS founder and then president, Goldie Maupin.
Mary Irma Hilger was born on July 12, 1917, in Ost, Reno County, Kansas [1] [2] to Katherine May and Peter M. Hilger. [3] [4] She joined the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in 1935 and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree and master's degree in nursing [2] [5] from Saint Louis University, in St. Louis, Missouri.
