"The Great Gig in the Sky" is the fifth track [nb 1] on The Dark Side of the Moon, a 1973 album by English rock band Pink Floyd. The song features music by keyboard player Richard Wright and improvised, wordless vocals by session singer Clare Torry. It is one of only three Pink Floyd songs to feature lead vocals from an outside artist.
A one-minute reprise features at the end of the song "Time", [2] without the slide guitar and using Farfisa organ and Wurlitzer electronic piano in place of Hammond organ and Rhodes piano. On 4 November 1973, Torry sang "The Great Gig in the Sky" at the Rainbow Theatre in London. [2] [6] [7] [8] She sang it with Pink Floyd again at their 1990 concert at Knebworth, and with Roger Waters at some of his 1980s solo shows. [9] She also contributed to Waters' 1986 soundtrack When the Wind Blows and to his 1987 album Radio K.A.O.S.. [9]
"Any Colour You Like" is also known (and is even listed on the Dark Side guitar tablature book [4]) as "Breathe (Second Reprise)" because the piece shares the same chord pattern (albeit somewhat funkier and uptempo) as the album's second song "Breathe" and its reprise at the end of "Time".
"One of These Days" is the opening track from Pink Floyd's 1971 album Meddle. [4] [5] The composition is instrumental except for the spoken line from drummer Nick Mason, "One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces."
