Darien (formerly Cass) is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 22,011. [3] A southwestern suburb of Chicago, Darien was named after the town of Darien, Connecticut. Darien is just north of I-55 and Historic U.S. Route 66 (now Frontage Road).

The National Shrine of St. Therese in Darien, Illinois, is a Catholic shrine dedicated to Thérèse de Lisieux. It is a part of the Aylesford Carmelite campus run by the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary. It is supported and served by the Society of the Little Flower, a religious organization devoted to the saint.
Modell was born to a Jewish family [4] [5] in Brooklyn, New York. His father George was a wine sales manager who went bankrupt after the stock market crash of 1929 [4] and later died when Modell was 14. [1] Modell attended New Utrecht High School. [6] Modell saw his first football game when he was nine years old. [7]
In 1949, Modell married Shelby Zaldin. [2] They had three children: a daughter, Leslie Modell; and two sons, Mitchell, the current CEO of the Modell's Sporting Goods, and Michael, who suffered from Crohn's disease, an inflammation of the digestive tract. Michael died in 2001. [1]
