Khaidi No. 786 (transl. Prisoner No. 786) is a 1988 Indian Telugu-language film directed by Vijaya Bapineedu. It stars Chiranjeevi, [1] Bhanupriya, Suthivelu, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Mohan Babu, Nutan Prasad and Kaikala Satyanarayana. [2] [3] It is the second film in Chiranjeevi's successful Khaidi trilogy.
Kranthi Kumar, who made Pranam Khareedu with Chiranjeevi, wanted to produce a small-budget film with him after the blockbuster Sardar Papa Rayudu. Doraiswamy Raju recommended the name of A. Kodandarami Reddy to Kranthikumar. After being unsatisfied with the scripts, Kranthi decided to adapt the novel Kotta Malupu into a feature film.
Many of his novels have been made into motion pictures in Telugu. He also directed two movies in Telugu, the first being Agni Pravesam, starring Yamuna, and the second movie with Chiranjeevi by name, Stuvartpuram Police Station. Both the stories were based on his own novels but not received well by the audience.
