In 3D computer graphics, a wire-frame model (also spelled wireframe model) is a visual representation of a three-dimensional (3D) physical object. It is based on a polygon mesh or a volumetric mesh, created by specifying each edge of the physical object where two mathematically continuous smooth surfaces meet, or by connecting an object's constituent vertices using (straight) lines or curves.
A wireframe document for a person profile view. A website wireframe, also known as a page schematic or screen blueprint, is a visual guide that represents the skeletal framework of a website. [1]: 166 The term wireframe is taken from other fields that use a skeletal framework to represent 3-dimensional shape and volume. [2]
Wireframe or wire-frame may refer to: Wire-frame model, visual model of a three-dimensional object in computer graphics; Website wireframe, ...
A 2D CAD drawing A 3D CAD model Computer-aided design ( CAD ) is the use of computers (or workstations ) to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design . [ 1 ] : 3 This software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to ...
A 3D model is a mathematical representation of any three-dimensional object; a model is not technically a graphic until it is displayed. A model can be displayed visually as a two-dimensional image through a process called 3D rendering, or it can be used in non-graphical computer simulations and calculations.
It simplifies rendering, as in a wire-frame model. The faces usually consist of triangles (triangle mesh), quadrilaterals (quads), or other simple convex polygons . A polygonal mesh may also be more generally composed of concave polygons, or even polygons with holes.
The 3D model can be physically created using 3D printing devices that form 2D layers of the model with three-dimensional material, one layer at a time. Without a 3D model, a 3D print is not possible. 3D modeling software is a class of 3D computer graphics software used to produce 3D models. Individual programs of this class are called modeling ...
Types of 3D models include wireframe, solid, surface and mesh. A design has one or more of these model types. [3] Machines for fabrication Three machines are popular ...
