In 1994, the Seattle Symphony selected a city block adjacent to University Street station, used during tunnel construction for equipment staging and storage, as the site of their new concert hall. [35] The building, later named Benaroya Hall, required the two-year closure of the station's 2nd Avenue entrance beginning in 1996. [36]
Seattle Symphony held its final concert in the Opera House on June 30, 1998, and moved to the newly completed Benaroya Hall soon after.
