The Martin Marietta Spacemaster was a proposed configuration for what became the Space Shuttle, which featured an X-24-derived orbiter, and an unusual "catamaran style" booster stage. During launch and ascent, the orbiter would be located in a recess in the booster.
The Spacemaster range was designed by Ralph Cameron Ormiston (1921-2000) who is also noted for designing the Carron “Cordon Bleu” cooker, a forerunner of the modern range cooker. [1] The design of the Spacemaster range reflects the contemporary interest in space following the successful launching of Sputnik 1 in 1957.
Space Master was designed by Kevin Barrett and Terry K. Amthor, [2] with a cover by Gail McIntosh and illustrations by Jason Waltrip and Dan Carroll, and was published by ICE in 1985 as a boxed set with two books (one 96 pages, one 88 pages), a 16-page pamphlet, three color maps, and a counter sheet.
