Dewa was formed in 1986 by four students from SMAN 2 Surabaya. The name Dewa is an acronym of the founding members' names: D from Dhani (keyboard, vocals), E from Erwin Prasetya (bass guitar), W from Wawan Juniarso (drums) and A from Andra (guitar). Dewa is also an Indonesian word meaning 'god', or 'deity'.
Republik Cinta is the 8th studio album by Dewa 19 and was released in January 2006 in Indonesia; the title translates into "Republic of Love". The album reached #1 on the Indonesian album charts and has since been released in other Asian territories including Malaysia and a Chinese release via EMI in Hong Kong.
He dismissed rumors that Dewa 19 was finished. "I will focus on Mahadewa, my new band, and Dewa 19 still exists", he said. In January 2012, Mahadewa announced that its debut album would soon be released, containing five new songs and five covers of Dewa 19 songs. The album's first single, "Cinta Itu Buta", was released in mid-2012.
In April 2021, Pamungkas' song "To the Bone" from Flying Solo became the longest-running top song on Spotify's Indonesia Top 50 chart. The band is known for songs which are often accompanied by political and socially conscious lyrics. It continues to be active and has received many awards from the Indonesian music industry. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Along with God Bless and Dewa 19 , they are dubbed one of the greatest rock bands in the history of Indonesian popular music. [ 3 ]

In 2014, Titi DJ returned to the panel, while Agnes Monica left the panel and was replaced by singer and vocalist of Kotak Band Tantri Syalindri [ id ] .
