Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale opened the Gallery Furniture store on 6006 North Freeway in Houston as a shelter on Monday morning as rain from Hurricane Beryl led to flooding across the area.
In August 2017, McIngvale opened his stores to people affected by Harvey, a hurricane that flooded the city. [7]When Tropical Storm Imelda flooded Houston in 2019, McIngvale once again opened the doors of Gallery Furniture and partnered with Crisis Clean-Up to provide free meals and shelter at the North Freeway location.

The Westin Oaks Houston. Two hotels are located directly in the Galleria complex. The 400-room Houston Oaks Hotel opened in September 1971, soon after the opening of the first wing of the Galleria. The 500-room Galleria Plaza Hotel opened on November 18, 1977, soon after the opening the second wing.
