Nottingham Express Transit (NET) is a 20-mile (32 km) [4] tram system in Nottingham, England. The concept of a modern tramway to reduce road congestion and promote urban renewal was formally identified during the late 1980s while detailed planning was undertaken during the early 1990s.
Following demolition of the central span, a narrower footbridge and cycleway was opened in 1980. The bridge was once again widened to accommodate an extension of the Nottingham Express Transit network in 2015. Parts of the northern side of the bridge are Grade II listed building, including the former toll house. [2] [3] [4]
Nottingham is close to the M1 motorway and major roads the A52 and the A46. To the west of Nottingham through to Derby, the A52 is known as Brian Clough Way. There are several park and ride locations which offer connections with Nottingham Express Transit or the bus network. [12]
