"Looking for America" is a song by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. The song was written and produced by Del Rey and Jack Antonoff. The song was written as a response to the back-to-back shootings in Dayton and El Paso on August 3, 2019. [1] [2] [3] The song was previewed on Instagram on August 5, the day it was written.
The lyrics are written in blank verse. The song opens, on Bookends, with a crossfade from "Save the Life of My Child". (This effect is not present on the single versions, which begin with a "clean" open.) The song follows two young lovers – "an apparently impromptu romantic traveling alliance" – who set out "to look for America."
