Castleton is a neighborhood area in Lawrence and Washington townships on the northeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States.After shortly over a century of being an independent town, the locality was included in Indianapolis as part of Unigov consolidation in 1970 and was further dissolved in 1992.
Castleton is an area of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England, [1] 1.2 miles (1.9 km) south-southwest of Rochdale town centre and 8 miles (13 km) north-northeast of the city of Manchester. Historically a part of Lancashire , Castleton's early history is marked by its status as a township within the ancient parish of Rochdale . [ 1 ]
On January 1, 1970, the city-county consolidation of Indianapolis and Marion County resulted in the partial annexation of 16 towns, known as "included towns". [10] Under state statute, included towns retain some limited autonomy; however, they are legally considered part of the Consolidated City of Indianapolis and Marion County, subject to its laws and government.
They started in John Street, Rochdale. In July 1892 they moved into the new Globe Works, Castleton; the layout and buildings having been designed by Samuel Tweedale. Howard & Bullough operated out of the Globe Works Accrington. The first product was a ring frames. In February 1893, frames were installed in the Newhey Spinning Mill.
The constituency covers the west half of the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, including the towns of Heywood and Middleton, and some of the western fringes of Rochdale itself such as Castleton. Norden and Bamford are strong Conservative areas, with several million-pound houses, but all other wards are mostly favourable to Labour.
They also adopted Rochdale's centenary kit of black and white stripes. [7] Their first home game in the league as Rochdale Town was a 4–5 defeat at the start of the 2008–09 season to the newly formed AFC Liverpool on 16 August 2008. [8] At the end of the 2015–16 season, Rochdale Town were relegated to Step 7 due to ground grading issues. [9]

The first church on the present site was a chapel of ease opened in 1742. The name supposedly derives from the fields of Melissa plant which grew on the site. [1] [a] The land and much of the funding was supplied by Samuel Chetham, of Turton Tower and Castleton Hall and High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1738. [3]
