The India–Nepal border is an open international boundary running between the republics of India and Nepal. The 1,751 km (1,088.02 mi) long border includes the Himalayan territories as well as Indo-Gangetic Plain of the subcontinent. [1] The current border was delimited after the Sugauli treaty of 1816 between Nepal and the British Raj.

Kakarbhitta is the eastern terminus of Nepal's east-west Mahendra Highway. at the country's eastern border with Darjeeling District, West Bengal state, India. The Panitanki neighborhood of Batasi is on the other side. There is a border checkpoint for customs and third country nationals. Indian and Nepalese nationals cross without restriction.

A Chinese border checkpoint was set up in 2011 checking border crossing permits of Nepalese. [10] In 2015, there were recorded 7700 border crossings and the annual trade at this port was valued at CN¥ 18,650,000.
